Hebrews 1:
In the Old Testament God spoke to His people through prophets and in the last days (the time of the gospels) God spoke to His people through dreams, visions, and ultimately through His long awaited Son. Now God’s revelations to His people are complete and we have been given His Holy Spirit so that we may have a deeper understanding of God’s will as He continues to direct us, even today. It is important to understand who Jesus is. He is not an angel but God’s own Son. Jesus told Philip, “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father!” (John 14:9). For this understanding is the basis of all that we believe, though Jesus was born of a woman He is God and not a created being. When Jesus spoke He uttered only God’s will because He is God. The vessel of His body allowed us to connect with Him in a way never before possible. In Old Testament times prophets were selected by God and were therefore prepared by God to deliver His message to the people, while all along they pointed to Jesus’ coming. It is important to know that the prophets did not select themselves, nor were they able to prepare themselves for God’s purpose but God gave them instruction and they were obedient because of God. In this way they too spoke the will of the Father but being able to walk with God, to see Him with your own eyes, and touch Him not only physically but with our hearts was far greater than what was offered in the Old Testament but Jesus too pointed to one who would come after Him, the Holy Spirit. Now that we have been given the Holy Spirit; each one who accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior and believes in Him is able to commune with God at any place or time. Still, once again, our hearts long to see Jesus and our souls long for a home to which we have never been. This is only evidence that we too are being prepared for God’s next step, when He tells Jesus to return and bring His bride home.
For the choir director: A meditation; a psalm of David. Only fools say in their hearts, "There is no God." They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good! God looks down from heaven on the entire human race; He looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God.
