After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can't take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.
(1 Timothy 6:7-8 NLT)
Society has seemed to accept the ideal of being rich is good and desirable for the purpose of driving people’s ambitions and our economy but it doesn’t talk about the costs involved on the way there nor the rewards once obtained.
But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
(1 Timothy 6:9-10 NLT)
Some claw their way to the top, while others are born rich or come into an inheritance but once accustomed to the life style, if they are not careful, they get a “me first” attitude. For a period of about three years I worked as a professional home theatre installer. Most of my client base had more money than could be imagined. The special rooms that would be made to entertain were astounding and the display of money and power was evident from the cars that were parked in the multi-car, heated garages, to furnishings and paintings hanging on the walls. You would have thought someone with that much money would loosen up a little but they were some of the tightest people, in regards to money, I have ever met. The general feel was that they had to protect what was theirs and I am sure there were people in their lives who were present because of their worth because that is the foundation they built upon. It should also be said a select few were generous and seemed to be able to handle their worth better than most but even they had grown accustomed to a life-style of being served instead of serving others, which we know is the currency of God’s kingdom.
In my youth I would day dream about things I wanted when I became an adult. As an adult learning to live within my means was and is sometimes still a difficult lesson but the older I get the more I realize I am okay with this life God has provided. It’s kind of like having just enough to eat, for if you eat too much you want to unbutton your jeans, lay back in your easy chair and watch TV but if you have an edge of hunger you will work and you will be alert to your surroundings. In the same way I don’t want to be like the rich man in Luke 12 that was going to tear down his barns to build bigger ones so he could sit back and take it easy. Without being aware he had totally locked God out of his life and assumed this life he had was somehow brought about because of his own good fortune but God called him a fool because he died that night and lost everything he had and as a reward received all that he had worked for in the life to come. You see, we are here for a purpose, God’s purpose and His Holy Spirit will lead us to that purpose no matter how long it takes, for God is patient. Some will realize what that purpose is while they are still young and others won’t understand it until they are old and God knows and understand our capacity to do the work He has for us. However, we cannot afford to chase this hunger away with riches because it leads us to God. Money is the root of all kinds of evil and if money is what we are serving then we have either willingly or unwillingly rejected God. This rich man in Luke 12 did not appear to have evil intentions, as a matter of fact I’m sure his plans would have provided work for many, allowing them to make a life for themselves either as slaves or free men. This is the attitude the world has today – let the rich become richer and those with less will benefit from it but God says these people are broke and without true riches. So young man, young woman, which path do you want to take in preparation for your adult life?
"Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God."
(Luke 12:21 NLT)
"Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world." The LORD of Heaven's Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.
(Psalms 46:10-11 NLT)
Lord, in you I will trust. May my soul remain just hungry enough to make my feet follow where You lead. Please don’t let me look to what you have provided to save me but may this passion inside of me remain for You alone.
Many are intentional about starting this spiritual pursuit but few finish with the same zeal as when they begun. Though we cannot always see the path before us it is no less adventurous or real, that is why our faith and action are required as we step through God’s door of salvation and even though each journey looks different it's the daily steps with our Savior, common to us all, that bring us to our destination and ultimately to His purpose.

Godly instruction
As Paul instructs Timothy how to conduct himself in regards to dealing with other people in the church we find life applications for everyday living.
Always show respect to people who are older than you. Paul did not give Timothy rules on which elders should be respected but he said “Never speak harshly to an older man but appeal to him respectfully”. Why, because he knew for Timothy to gain respect he would have to show it.
Next he instructs him to take care of the elderly who have no one else to take care of them but if they have family who are capable of taking care of them then they should do so before the church does. In verse eight Paul said, “But those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers.” He also told Timothy the age of the widow makes a difference how you care for them. The younger ones should be encouraged to remarry while the older ones should supported by the church.
The next one has importance to me because I have been there for which I am grateful because it also helps me understand the importance of giving. Verse seventeen, “Elders who do their work well should be respected and paid well, especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching.” Notice Paul didn’t say “only those who both preach and teach”. I have seen too many times the church that expects services provide for free and I am fully aware that non-believers have noticed also. As one who served the church for many years above beyond the level of volunteer, as one who has worked for the church providing installation and professional advice for their A/V needs, as a professional engineering consultant, and being in contact with others who do the same things I can tell you too many churches have a bad reputation for taking advantage of people when it comes to financial obligations. It should be made known not all churches are this way but so many are that all but an elite few are looked upon in a bad light. Being responsible with the finances you are given is a big job and not to be taken lightly but not paying what you owe just because you can hurts in ways unseen.
How many like to be the subject of other people’s conversations, accused without the opportunity to explain or defend your position? It is no fun, feelings get hurt, and friendships broken. For this reason Paul instructs not to believe an accusation against an elder unless it is confirmed by two or three witnesses. And I would say if it is confirmed by many you should go to that person first and present them with the news you received and provide them the opportunity to explain. Only then can it be confirmed by you and once you have done this and the person should but refuses to repent then they must be brought before the church for the purpose of all knowing. How many times has an elder done something wrong only to be covered up by the leaders of the church so that the church will not lose members or their support? I just heard it in the news this past week, again it doesn’t take many bad apples to make the whole cart bad. Paul goes on to say, “Never be in a hurry about appointing a church leader. Don’t share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure.” Don’t make hasty decisions but pray about everything, sometimes the wrong decision can be worse than not making a decision at all.
Next comes a dividing line within the church. Paul tells Timothy not to drink only water but a little wine for the sake of his health. When the church is asked about this they are quick to point out that Timothy was sick often and the wine helped settle his stomach also the water at that time and place was not clean and healthy like the tap water we have today. Well there is no way of proving that the water Timothy was drinking was bad or not but here is the question I lay on the table. If drinking wine is a sin would Paul have Timothy sin in order maintain health in his body?
Don't act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts.
(Ephesians 5:17-19 NLT)
Ephesians 5:18 tells us not to get drunk but does not say don’t drink. People call drinking alcohol a sin because they’ve seen what drunken people do and because the drinking leads to drunkenness they are one in the same but I’m not sure that is how God sees it. The sin comes whenever we give up the control we are to have over our own being and that is true with anger, drugs, alcohol, and many, many other things. We know anger is not a sin in itself because the Bible tells us Jesus was angry, look at John 11:33-38 and Matthew 21:12. Ephesians 4:26 tells us not to sin by letting anger control you. It is made clear it is not anger that is a sin but the act of letting it control you is the actual sin. The easiest way to make sure you never sin in this area is simply never get angry but is that what God intended? Each person who loves God has to do what they believe is right and they will only know that by reading the Bible, praying, and being sensitive to the leading of God’s Holy Spirit. Still many make judgments without doing these things first. This is right and true it is a sin to call something a sin and it not be a sin. Though intentions maybe good those who do this are missing the mark. If God has called you not to drink wine or eat meat then you should not do that but don’t condemn others because they do. I personally can’t get past the thought of the animal that has an endless supply of green pastures as far as the eye can see but spends all of it’s time pushing up against the fence that defines where it should not go.
Lastly, Paul reminds Timothy the sins of some are obvious but the sins of others will not be revealed until a later time. The same is true with good deeds, which leads us to not judge others for only God knows the heart.

Spiritual fittness
"Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come." This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it. This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.
(1 Timothy 4:8-10 NLT)
The older I get the more important it is that I eat right and exercise regularly but as important as that is it all means nothing if my spirit man is starving. Diet and exercise will extend my life and the quality of it but it only pushes back the inevitable a little while.
Grass withers and flowers fade when the LORD sends the wind blowing over them. People are no more enduring than grass.
(Isaiah 40:7 GNB)
I am convinced that this life serves this purpose: to allow those who say they love God to prove what they say is true. How many times did Jesus ask Peter if he loved Him?
A third time He asked him, "Simon son of John, do you love Me?" Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, "Lord, You know everything. You know that I love You." Jesus said, "Then feed My sheep. "I tell you the truth, when you were young, you were able to do as you liked; you dressed yourself and went wherever you wanted to go. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and others will dress you and take you where you don't want to go."
(John 21:17-18 NLT)
Jesus indicated each time Peter replied something was required of him so that he may prove his love for Jesus. It is no less true with us. I love this life God gave me because I know Jesus walks with me, it is my time to try. And as I do I will fall, it’s not about being perfect but in falling I come to a better understanding of God’s love for me. He lifts me up, dusts me off, and helps me to stand once again. If I went to heaven as soon as I accepted Christ Jesus into my heart I would not know His great love, nor would I be given the opportunity to show my love for Him. Yes, it is good to stay healthy but don’t forsake your spiritual health because of short sightedness. Your physical health means you get to experience God’s presence longer and that is good but without your spiritual health your beauty, your talents, your efforts will all fade quickly in the light of eternity.
I do not trust in my bow; I do not count on my sword to save me. You are the One who gives us victory over our enemies; You disgrace those who hate us.
(Psalms 44:6-7 NLT)
And Lord I do not trust in my ability to stay healthy but trust you with my life here below and look to You for leading me home so that I may be with you for eternity. Provide me the courage to try and the faith to believe you will pick me up when I fall. For it is only in the doing that I come to understand You won’t leave me. If I don’t experience Your love for myself then all that I’ve heard about You are just stories and though stories can ignite passion for life its only in the doing , the living life, that the stories turn into relationship and relationship into love for You. I thought I loved You when You saved me but I love You more today.

The unresting enemy
God’s children have an enemy that is ceaseless in activity, ever toiling for the destruction of what God has set forth to be good and right. Only as we seek God with our whole being do we come to realize the flood that is rising against us, reminding us of what is to come.
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
(1 Peter 5:8 NLT)
For one day God’s righteousness will be removed and what the enemy now does in the shadows will one day be done in broad daylight. And on that day though the sun may shine no eye will be able to see what is happening because it is God’s Holy Spirit that allows us to discern righteousness from evil.
Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, He abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.
(Romans 1:28 NLT)
There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.
(Proverbs 14:12 NLT)
In the end all roads points to Jesus, for man was not created so that he can save himself but only a righteous, holy God that loved us enough to send His only Son who knew no sin yet was offered as a sacrifice to die so that our debts may be erased. All that is asked of us in return is that we love God above all else and love our neighbor like ourselves so they may also know God’s love. Don’t allow yourself to be blinded by the concerns and worries of this world but be transformed so that the talents and resources entrusted to you may be spent on the eternal not the temporary.

The disciplined life
The Christian who lives a disciplined life is a Christian that recognizes the holy. Allow me to explain, in order to stay healthy I decided to take an opportunity that came my way to start seeing a nutritionist for this coming year, I knew I needed help with eating right for a while now and though I was doing the best I knew to do I still wasn’t getting it right. In just one day I felt a big change in my energy level and alertness, which were two of the biggest issues I wanted to address but in spite of that I found the urge to search and destroy a bag of chips my wife brought home almost irresistible. Now before your eyes get too big it was a medium size bag and my youngest son liked them as much as I did but still within 24 hours I ate half a bag of chips! Then the Lord reminded me of something in a dream last night…
"This is amazing," Moses said to himself. "Why isn't that bush burning up? I must go see it." When the LORD saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, "Moses! Moses!" "Here I am!" Moses replied. "Do not come any closer," the LORD warned. "Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground. I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." When Moses heard this, he covered his face because he was afraid to look at God.
(Exodus 3:3-6 NLT)
It wasn’t for the burning bush that Moses covered his face and removed his sandals but it was because of God’s presence and the holiness that surrounded Him. Then the Lord reminded me my own heart, soul, mind, and body are holy too because He dwells there and I am also required to remove what is not holy. I knew instantly that meant things I’ve been spending time with like video games and Facebook, I also knew it was things I wasn’t doing like the pile of paper work on my desk that needs to be filed and more importantly spending more time with my wife and children. It seems we, God’s people, get so caught up in the rewards of this life that what seems mundane or boring gets pushed off to the side but these things that entertain us also trap us like a drug and we keep returning to feel that high but in the end everything becomes a chore. The needs pile up while we search for more ways to be in a continual state of bliss but even the highs eventually become just moments of normalcy. However, if we were disciplined enough to keep up with the “mundane” like paperwork we would find so much freedom to come into God’s presence, can you imagine finding God even in the little things all throughout your day instead of just an hour in the morning? Like eating right all day long makes you have more energy and allows you to be alert, being in God’s presence all day long would surely have a dramatic impact on your life that not only is noticed by you but by everyone you come in contact with! Yes, it is the disciplined life that I am searching for but the world’s enticements have a very real pull and this is part of the battle that we followers of Christ Jesus must face, for the battle is unknown by us until our eyes have been opened. Is it any wonder why this unseen journey is described as wild and adventurous? I may never climb a mountain or dive in the deep but my spirit has fought battles unseen and my soul recognizes the still quiet voice of the invisible God, for He has given me spiritual ears to hear His call and spiritual eyes to see the path He has placed me on but it remains my choice to follow and for that I pray for His strength, wisdom, understanding, and faith to do the things He teaches me is right, at all times.

Prayer, peace, and modesty
I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.
(1 Timothy 2:1 NLT)
To the best of your ability and with Christ’s strength, who lives in you, be at peace with all people, pray for them, and live modest lives for these things please God. There is a wild adventure on life’s journey and many times it includes battles but we don’t make war with people but the spirit with the flesh. There are times when people allow their flesh to rule their actions and are therefore used by the enemy to attack the spirit within you but the battleground cannot be seen with our natural eyes, as a matter of fact to combat these attacks as your flesh would lead is to lay down your only weapons, surrender, and join the enemy’s camp. Too often when we feel attacked it is our flesh that leads the charge but being saved from the rule of the flesh we must see the attack for what it is – spiritual warfare. Our weapons are not made of iron or steel nor can we defend ourselves with words that hurt but love, peace, and joy are the tools we have been given so that we might know victory over the devil and his tricks. By faith we withstand the fiery darts of the enemy and it is when we appear weak to others God’s strength is made known. It is as if two children disagreed because one did something wrong and the other tried to correct his sibling, in the end they are both wrong but instead of trying to correct if the second child would just do what he already knows is right and allow the parent to handle it everything would be made right. How many “adult” Christians try to correct their brother or sister themselves, as if they are God’s instrument of righteousness when in fact they have much worse sin in their own lives? Jesus sternly tells us there is a better way.
Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend's eye.
(Matthew 7:5 NLT)
God’s desire for our lives is that we grow in His Son and become more like Him in the things we say and do, praying continually, and placing other’s needs ahead of our own. When we become mature in this way God will use us but the source comes from a different place than you may be used to, for you do not act out of your flesh but God’s Holy Spirit within. This struggle is my struggle, for many times I’ve pointed out to my brother and sister where they are wrong yet my own wrongs go unchecked but God is teaching me as I submit to His authority in my life. Asking for forgiveness is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done but if I am to grow more like Christ then this step I must take.
Send out Your light and Your truth; let them guide me. Let them lead me to Your holy mountain, to the place where You live. There I will go to the altar of God, to God—the source of all my joy. I will praise You with my harp, O God, my God!
(Psalms 43:3-4 NLT)

My conscience is clear
Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked.
(1 Timothy 1:19 NLT)
Keeping my conscience clear and clinging to my faith is one in the same, for keeping a clear conscience means I must have faith to hear the leading of the Lord so that I may obey, which therefore causes me to cling to my faith all the more so that my spiritual eyes may remain open.
If someone were to ask me if I hear from God my reply would be, “Of course I do, don’t you?” but that’s not because of anything I have done but instead it comes from allowing God’s Holy Spirit to have His way and allowing the insignificant to become small. As I read God’s Word my spirit and soul begin to recognize the character of God, for Jesus said in John 14:9 “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.” and as I am faithful to read God’s Word He is faithful to plant seeds of faith in the soil of my heart. With these seeds God’s Holy Spirit points to the little things such as a person’s willingness to forgive or the love someone has for another, for these things would go unnoticed if it were not for the Holy Spirit bringing it to my attention. Someone might say but this only requires being sensitive and listening. Really, what does that sound like? Who allows one to be sensitive and to listen to that which cannot be heard? God’s Holy Spirit will speak to us in a small still voice. Was it not Elijah that stood before the Lord and a mighty wind hit the mountain with terrible blasts even tearing the rocks loose and then an earthquake, followed by a fire? Yet the Lord’s voice was not in these. Then these things passed and Elijah heard a gentle whisper immediately causing him to cover his face because he recognized the holy presences of the Lord (read 1 Kings 19). You see, when you seek after God whole heartedly it is the same as opening the door to Him and Jesus said, “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear My voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” (Revelation 3:20). Jesus is waiting but so many are unable or unwilling to listen because they are too busy and they have not the faith or time to sit at the Lord’s table long enough to know Him, causing their spirit to remain hungry and empty. Inside each of us is a God-shaped hole and though we try to fill it with different things nothing but Jesus will satisfy its yearning.
As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for You, O God.
(Psalms 42:1 NLT)
But each day the LORD pours His unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing His songs, praying to God who gives me life.

To those unwilling to work
Even while we were with you, we gave you this command: "Those unwilling to work will not get to eat." Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and meddling in other people's business. We command such people and urge them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and work to earn their own living. As for the rest of you, dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good. Take note of those who refuse to obey what we say in this letter. Stay away from them so they will be ashamed. Don't think of them as enemies, but warn them as you would a brother or sister.
(2 Thessalonians 3:10-15 NLT)
Entitlement, not those who are unable to work or those who can’t find work but those who think they deserve what they have not worked for, to those your feet are on the wrong path and it is time to wake up and look around you and see the world that you live in. The thought, “make the most of your situation” or “make the system work for you” is a trap because somewhere there are people working not only their share of the load but yours too. You are not maximizing the system you are using people but the fault is not all yours for society cannot differentiate between those who can’t work and those who won’t so it enables people to use the good will of others but just because you can use the system doesn’t mean you should. For, there is an unseen price that is demanded of you by the way you think and the lies you have believed. You have to believe a lie to justify your actions and it is your actions that condemn you. Read Luke 16:19-31 (the rich man and poor man) and Matthew 25:14-31 (to the three who the master gave talents) and Matthew 25:32-46 (as you have done to the least of these, so have you done to me) and Colossians 3:23 (work as unto the Lord).
You see the idea of entitlement keeps us from seeing the work the Lord of hosts has given us to do and one day we will be required to give an account of what we have done and what we have not done. So here on earth it is possible to “maximize the system” so that you can be comfortable without giving back but you are short-sighted because one day you will have to answer why you lived that way and we, your brothers and sisters in Christ, also have to answer why we did not confront you with the truth in love and to those who are doing right by working to earn what you receive do not respond in anger when you see someone using the system, more to the point using you but respond in love (Proverbs 15:1) “A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.” Remembering God’s Word does not return void but it accomplishes that which pleases God (read Isaiah 55:11).

Strength to do what is right
May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and in his grace gave us unfailing courage and a firm hope, encourage you and strengthen you to always do and say what is good.
(2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 GNB)
I have found that the Christian life usually falls into one of two camps - doing what feels right or doing what the Bible says. The “doing what feels right” camp is filled with Christians with good intentions but do not take time to know God intimately. They have an understanding based on their upbringing and/or the lessons they hear at church, as a matter of fact the act of going to church has become very important to them as it is their life-line to knowing about God but their interest in God seems to stop there. Outside of church their lives are filled with the business of being a parent or spouse or grandparent or a good employee, one who is active in their community and social gatherings. Somewhere along the lines they fall into the trap that the decisions they make are good because they love going to church, their family, and friends but where is God in the equation?
The second camp “doing what the Bible says” is not as large but the people in it have more depth in their spiritual lives and therefore they are more sensitive to the moving of God’s Holy Spirit. Daily they connect with the One who is responsible for all life, their time with God is priceless, and if they miss their time alone with Him their whole day is off kilter and they can’t wait for their next chance to be alone with Him. These love church too but not for the social value but for the opportunity to be involved in corporate worship and to serve their community alongside others who desire to see God’s will happening among them. Missing church is not as devastating to them because they sense God is with them wherever they go but they are also mindful of those around them and do things that witness to their spirits what is right and good, as Paul talks about not eating meat or drinking wine for the sake of his brother (Romans 14:21).
In our lives we must recognize the difference between what feels right and actual righteousness. Righteousness will always require more thought, more sensitivity to God’s leading, and the flesh will always resist. The very things that have kept us from following righteousness in the first place, will become indicators to those who now follow the unseen. Unlike others they are not doing what feels right or hoping by process of osmosis that they make the right decisions because they have surrounded themselves with people who talk about doing right. No, these indicators have only become useful because they have put God first, as they hunger for His righteousness, and as they daily strive to step in His footsteps. Another indicator is this, after doing what feels right you are often left with a thought other than pleasing God. You are proud of what you have done for someone else or you wish they would get their act together so you wouldn’t have to keep doing for them what they should do for themselves but if you have actually done what God has instructed your overwhelming thought is that you have pleased God – this is why Jesus emphasized motives of the heart. So pay attention to these signs and see which camp you fall in, I have been in both but I want to live in “doing what the Bible says” camp and for that I pray for strength to do what is right and I pray the same for you.
Oh, the joys of those who trust the LORD, who have no confidence in the proud or in those who worship idols. O LORD my God, You have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all Your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them. You take no delight in sacrifices or offerings. Now that You have made me listen, I finally understand—You don't require burnt offerings or sin offerings. Then I said, "Look, I have come. As is written about me in the Scriptures: I take joy in doing Your will, my God, for Your instructions are written on my heart."

What attracts me
As a person who is dedicated to following Christ Jesus I find there are certain people in my life that I am attracted to. These people are often teachers, pastors, and elders but obtaining these positions is not where it’s at because sadly most of these people’s lives do not call out to me but those who do have allowed God to have His way in their lives, not just once in the distant past but even today have they been in communion with my Lord and Savior and I think wow if my testimony was more like theirs, they have faced their battles and have come through victoriously and are now telling others what they have found. The discipline in their lives allows them to be the person God has purposed for them to be and they are bold about broadcasting Truth to all who will listen, telling others about the things the Lord has done which has brought them to that point. Their eyes are set on Christ and their feet are faithful to follow, it’s these things that I long for in my life and here are people living it and their lives catch my soul’s attention!
The Lord has allowed me to know this one thing, these people are not attractive because of something that has transpired in their lives years ago for I too have conquered and continue to follow Christ but it is because of the consistent time spent with the Lord every morning, they seek diligently the will of Christ, they battle daily for the souls of others and they set aside all things that would distract them from His purpose, their sight is not of the carnal but of the spirit for I am attracted not to people but the very character of God in them, which is evident in their lives because of their willingness to put God first in all they do. If you ask them they will tell you God has delivered them from certain death and without God they are helpless to change, even after all they have learned. For these people know their own desperation for God’s presence in their lives and unlike the rich young ruler, they are willing to sell everything to follow Him. Everything else becomes as empty words pointing with a crooked finger the way in which they think you should go but what attracts me is to see my brother or sister up ahead walking, living, eating, breathing the very life, partaking the very existence I have been called to and walking the path on which I am traveling and my hope is that in some small way I too reflect the light of Christ for He has allowed me to see my own desperation and He has set my feet on straight and narrow and my spirit knows without Christ I would surely die. Though my flesh calls out with all the distractions of the world my spirit knows it is by Christ alone this change in my heart will be evident to others as my feet are faithful to follow where He leads me each day.

Like a thief in the night
But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation. For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out His anger on us. Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when He returns, we can live with Him forever. So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord's work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance. Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other. Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone. See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people. Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
(1 Thessalonians 5:8-18 NLT)
What must I do to be ready for the Lord’s return? Read 1 Thessalonians 5 and you will know, acknowledge the work Jesus did, who He is (God’s Son sent to earth to show us how to live), humble yourself so that you may accept Him as Lord, and then obey His Word. Though prophecies for told Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection we could not see it until it happened and many even after it happened refused to believe it, even still. He is coming again and like before His coming is for told but this time we must be ready for Him, if we are not we will miss His plan for our lives and the final opportunity to live with Him forever closes quickly.
Everyone has their battles and struggles what does it profit us if we spend all our time pointing out other’s mistakes and short-comings? Will that prepare us to meet our Lord and Savior? Only one thing will prepare us for that day – knowing Jesus Christ, for it is not enough to know of Him, even the devil and all his demons know of Jesus. So did all the Pharisees and teachers of the law but that was not enough to save them. The great thing about it is no matter who we are, rich or poor, of lofty influence or a beggar on the street, regardless of race or ethnicity, we all can know Jesus. As a matter of fact the only thing that can keep us from Him is our own will, for even nature is witness to His mighty work!
I am on the verge of collapse, facing constant pain. But I confess my sins; I am deeply sorry for what I have done.
(Psalms 38:17-18 NLT)
Do not abandon me, O LORD. Do not stand at a distance, my God. Come quickly to help me, O Lord my savior.

a thought
I am thankful for this life at all times, places, circumstances, and with all people because of this one thing – regardless of what I am going through this is my opportunity to prove that I will follow Jesus. For one day I will stand before my Maker and on that terrible day I want to be able to say, “Lord I followed You, even when it was difficult I did not turn aside.” Without difficulties my faith is not tested and my love is not proven not only to God and others but to myself. So Lord remind me of this the next time difficulties knock on my heart’s door, help me to be joyful in all that I do and say knowing You are with me and You are taking me through the Refiner’s fire. These things may not bring profit in this life but they will prove priceless in the next, without which I will stand before You empty handed left wanting.

Lives of impurity or holiness
God's will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor—not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and His ways.
(1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 NLT)
Holiness and impurity are like oil and water in that they do not mix, for a person cannot be holy on Sunday and impure throughout the week. If your mind is allowed to think impure thoughts then your whole being is impure but if you draw close to God and keep His commandments then you will be holy like He is holy. This I know, purity and victory are inseparable, for without one you cannot have the other. It is because victory is found in our Lord Jesus Christ alone and though He walked among us and He touched the leper and eat with the tax collector and allowed the once prostitute to wash his feet he remained holy and pure. Yes Jesus broke through our sin and disease to offer victory over sin and death yet He himself did not sin or become sick but too many times we try to serve two masters, attempting to holding on to one while trying to serve the other. Be assured of this within the Holy Trinity there is no division and impurity can cast no shadows in the light of our Savior and Lord. For if we are to accept the work that Jesus has done for us then we must also control our own bodies and choose lives of holiness and honor but if we allow our minds to think impure thoughts or allow our bodies to act upon lustful passions we do not know God and therefore victory cannot be known by us.
To combat the desires of the flesh exercise the mind of Christ and love people with God’s love. The flesh will wildly resist at first but the more you do it the smaller its voice becomes. However, you must always be alert and on guard daily seeking God’s will for the enemy is cunning and he lies quietly waiting for his snare to catch you unaware. Jesus warned there is no victory apart from him when He said this…
"Anyone who isn't with Me opposes Me, and anyone who isn't working with Me is actually working against Me. "When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, searching for rest. But when it finds none, it says, 'I will return to the person I came from.' So it returns and finds that its former home is all swept and in order. Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so that person is worse off than before."
(Luke 11:23-26 NLT)
But choose righteousness and seek humility knowing who you are and who’s you are then the Lord will meet you each morning showing you your portion for each day.
The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand. Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread.

Remain strong in your faith
So we have been greatly encouraged in the midst of our troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith.
(1 Thessalonians 3:7 NLT)
Whether you stand or fall never just impacts you but those who know you as well, for no man or woman is an island and in this life the choices you make, the places you go, the things you do and say, whether your faith is strong or you fold beneath the weight of the enemy’s tricks, all these things impact not only you but those around you as well. For we cannot live secret lives apart from who we are. The part of us that we allow others to see is of course part of who we are (or better yet who we could be) but so is the part we keep hidden. That’s why God desires a pure heart, a heart that admits when it is wrong and believes He has the power to change us and one that is willing to submit to His authority, regardless of what our eyes tell us or what our minds would have us believe. For we are not led by the physical but by the spirit within and it is by God’s Spirit, the Holy Spirit, that Truth will be revealed and those who remain in Him shall know Truth and it will set them free.
In this life we can choose to be a “Way Maker” or an “Obstacle” in other’s journey simply by our attitude, actions, and words. Of course we would all say the “Way Maker” is what we want to be but these three things often tell a different story. If we put on a happy face and speak kind words but harbor within our hearts bitterness and strife or if we speak evil of one and in favor of another for our own purpose which do you think we have become? I am speaking to myself first concerning these things but don’t be fooled every man, woman, and child needs to search their own hearts in as much as God has revealed Truth to them about what’s on the inside. If you cannot hear Him speaking then examine your own life. When was the last time you have set apart time from your busy schedule to be with God, to read His Word, to pray, and to worship? Draw close to Him and He will draw close to you.
Those who have fallen and have been labeled a “failure” by society, if they are willing to accept the Truth God has revealed to them about themselves they will always have an advantage over those who appear strong or righteous because the Truth is if we are depending on ourselves to be good then our abilities are very limited for human kindness is dark, deceitful, and self-serving but when we recognize God’s ability to change who we are and we are ready for that change and we give authority to Him to do so what He does through us, not only for our sake but for the sake of others is unlimited. So remain strong in the faith He has given you. Do not limit what God can do in your life by turning from Him but remain strong in faith, hope, and love.
Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for Him to act. Don't worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper—it only leads to harm. For the wicked will be destroyed, but those who trust in the LORD will possess the land.
