Jesus taught this way,
Watch out! Don't do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. When you give to someone in need, don't do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get. But when you give to someone in need, don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

What is our motivation for giving? Selfishness or compassion, blessing or need, you decide. God’s Word teaches if we are giving to God the only gift that is received will be the ones given with a clean heart. Again Jesus taught this,
But I say, if you are even angry with someone [without cause], you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell. So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God.
(Matthew 5:22-24 NLT)
You see it’s not just what is being placed on the altar but our very lives are to be a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God. We are not to judge others but according to God’s commandments we are to judge our own action, motivations, and even thoughts so that God doesn’t have to. My friend do not think so highly of yourself as to place your needs and desires above others but trust that the Master knows the heart of each man and woman and sees our true needs and intentions and will give to each the portion they deserve. Once again Jesus teaches this,
"When you are invited to a wedding feast, don't sit in the seat of honor. What if someone who is more distinguished than you has also been invited? The host will come and say, 'Give this person your seat.' Then you will be embarrassed, and you will have to take whatever seat is left at the foot of the table! "Instead, take the lowest place at the foot of the table. Then when your host sees you, he will come and say, 'Friend, we have a better place for you!' Then you will be honored in front of all the other guests. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."

It’s about looking to God and knowing that He knows each heart and His intent is to bless His people through the vessels of His choosing. In this way His blessings not only cover the needy but those who humble themselves and allow God to work through them as well. You see though the gift passes from you to the one receiving it you are not the giver but simply the vessel from which the gift has been poured. Though you worked for the money that blesses someone God is the One that provided the job for you to have the money and so it goes. No matter how much you give you cannot out give the Lord God whether it be finances, compassion, mercy, forgiveness, or many, many other things.
I grew up understanding this scripture to mean finances but it is about so much more! Malachi the prophet spoke as God gave him the words, giving God’s people the choice and proving His blessings are conditional but thankful His love and long suffering is not. Even when we turn our backs to God His Holy Spirit reminds us of His love, wooing back into relationship with Him. In the Old Testament, before the Holy Spirit came God used His prophets such as Malachi to correct and teach – this is God loving a people who turned their backs to Him and He still does it today!
Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in My Temple. If you do," says the LORD of Heaven's Armies, "I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put Me to the test!

Don’t cheat God, get your selfishness out of the equation and let Him do the work He has purposed through you as His living sacrifice. When His people are arrogant and refuse to be God’s vessel we will see very quickly God can use anything He chooses, even a donkey!
But God was angry that Balaam was going, so He sent the angel of the LORD to stand in the road to block his way. As Balaam and two servants were riding along, Balaam's donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand. The donkey bolted off the road into a field, but Balaam beat it and turned it back onto the road. Then the angel of the LORD stood at a place where the road narrowed between two vineyard walls. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, it tried to squeeze by and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall. So Balaam beat the donkey again. Then the angel of the LORD moved farther down the road and stood in a place too narrow for the donkey to get by at all. This time when the donkey saw the angel, it lay down under Balaam. In a fit of rage Balaam beat the animal again with his staff. Then the LORD gave the donkey the ability to speak. "What have I done to you that deserves your beating me three times?" it asked Balaam. "You have made me look like a fool!" Balaam shouted. "If I had a sword with me, I would kill you!" "But I am the same donkey you have ridden all your life," the donkey answered. "Have I ever done anything like this before?" "No," Balaam admitted. Then the LORD opened Balaam's eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the roadway with a drawn sword in his hand. Balaam bowed his head and fell face down on the ground before him. "Why did you beat your donkey those three times?" the angel of the LORD demanded. "Look, I have come to block your way because you are stubbornly resisting me. Three times the donkey saw me and shied away; otherwise, I would certainly have killed you by now and spared the donkey."

Worry
Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for Him to act. Don't worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper—it only leads to harm. For the wicked will be destroyed, but those who trust in the LORD will possess the land.

How many times, now that I am older, wish that I would just learn to remain silent? Too many times similar situations would occur in my youth and I would hope for just the opposite, getting frustrated because I would not respond fast enough. Unfortunately I learned to do just that but by the grace of God I am still quiet by nature and in most cases I am who God has made me to be.
I believe at the heart of this matter is worry and Psalms 37:7-9 hits the mark. It is the injustice done to the innocent and the resilience of the arrogant and an unexplainable need to set straight the wrong. In my heart there is a drive to resolve the reasons that derail people within my circles of influence, which I know God uses this drive within me to accomplish His purpose if I can get out of the way by practicing humility and obedience.
If I can get the person to think about what they are doing and the reasons why my soul is satisfied but if they refuse to listen or are in a place where they are unable to listen or they continue to fall to the same bad reasoning it is at that point that I begin to worry and obsess, forgetting that God knows the situation better than I do. This is the very reason so many parents nag their children to do what is right, you see it is not just for the parent’s peace of mind but the parents who care (even if somewhat misguided) understand the consequences that are coming because of the child’s bad decisions. Parents naturally don’t want to see their children go through difficult times but in the end their intervention too often robs the next generation of the understanding God purposed through His law about reaping and sowing.
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that he also will reap.
(Galatians 6:7 MKJV)
Sometimes loving someone means letting them experience things that seem to be bad for them but in every situation not worrying and letting God instruct either by speaking through us, no more and no less or some other means is right and should they fail to listen then they learn by consequences for this is also right. If the other person listens you have won a brother or sister but if they refuse then you must trust God that He loves them even more than you do and as with you He knows what that person needs and His timing is never off. I’ve said it many times before but it’s worth saying again, God is more concerned with our spiritual condition than with our physical comfort. Meaning that if your flesh must endure difficulty there is a lesson your spirit must learn, even if it is as simple as knowing what God has said and trusting He is good in all things. Finally, it is our part to listen and obey not to control the outcome for we do not understand the things of God in whole but in part. Jesus asked (Mat. 6:27) “Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” How do you respond?

That which I do
But how can that be? Did the law, which is good, cause my death? Of course not! Sin used what was good to bring about my condemnation to death. So we can see how terrible sin really is. It uses God's good commands for its own evil purposes.

The very thing I purpose in my heart to do, that is what I will be tested in and if I don’t prepare for battle by seeking God’s provisions then I am bound to failure. If I say to myself, “I will show my wife how much I love her.” That is when I find myself being frustrated by the things she does. The law points to the very reason why I need a Savior! Sin uses the law to tell me how bad I really am but God’s Holy Spirit uses the law to lead me to Jesus. Sin is relentless and does not give up, no matter how close my walk with Jesus or for how long the moment I step outside of His provisions for me, the moment I think I understand how things work, the moment I design a plan to change myself, that is when I fall.
Again the law is there to show me how much I really do need a Hero but it’s not Superman, Batman, or Spiderman, no a fictional children’s hero is a hallow representation of our real spiritual need for a Savior! While the one comes from another planet or an unexplainable determination because of some unjust circumstance or need that story can only mimic the truth about God’s Son, the Word made flesh, coming down from a place that knows no sin to rescue a world that cannot understand His holiness. In both the make believe and the real life the rescued needed to see their need, while the make believe is terrorized by an ugly villain, the real life is plagued with ugly sin. The hope comes when we see that there is a better way and God’s law is what opens our eyes. So is the law good, yes! Will the enemy use it to suppress, maim, and kill, yes! But remember God created the law to serve His purpose. It is but a reminder of who we were before coming to know His Son and each time we turn from Him it meets us face to face to once again serve God’s purpose to remind us where we would be without Jesus living in us.

From where does true wisdom come
Does wisdom come from life’s experiences? Many think so but what about those who make wrong decisions they also believe themselves to be wise, did their experiences help them to be wise? How do you know when you are not making the best decision? Who gives you discernment? Fortunately we have a teacher but if you think about it knowing someone who knows the way doesn’t necessarily mean we will listen. There was once a king who dreamed God told him to ask for anything and it would be given to him. The king didn’t ask for what most in his position would ask; knowing his position would cause enemies he could have asked for long life but he didn’t.
Solomon, was wise even before he asked because he watched how God loved his father David and protected him. Knowing God was the source of his father’s fame and seeing how David was loved by such a mighty number of people in Solomon’s dream he asked God for wisdom, an understanding heart and God was pleased. God was so pleased that He also blessed Solomon with what he didn’t ask for – riches and fame and long life (read 1 Kings 3).
Later much of the book of Proverbs was written by Solomon. Individual proverbs were, up until then, used by instructors to teach the children of Israel how to apply God’s wisdom to everyday living. Look at how Proverbs starts out.
Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
(Proverbs 1:7 NLT)
No one likes discipline but godly correction actually brings us to a better understanding of who God is and what righteousness looks like. God, like a good father longs to bless His children with good gifts but many of those gifts (not God’s love) is conditional. First we are to make an effort to know who God is and then to love Him. We love Him by listening to His Word and obeying His instructions but we must also ask and when we ask we must believe!
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

As you seek God and ask for understanding slow down and listen, not all who offer advise are as wise as they believe themselves to be. Judge every decision, every thought by the Word of God and how can you do that if you do not know it? Wisdom is not gained by winning a race, often those who are first with a smart saying are the farthest away from real wisdom. If we believe true wisdom comes from God then being quiet long enough to listen is required and if we are not listening then where is the instruction coming from as it spews out of the mouth? Don’t be fooled though many appear wise as they build their great kingdoms where will they turn when the storms come? Jesus taught us this…
"Anyone who listens to My teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears My teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash."

Pride is the enemy of wisdom, for pride says, “I can do it” but wisdom says, “God can do it”

For all the world to see
But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.

And He answered, "If you had a sheep that fell into a well on the Sabbath, wouldn't you work to pull it out? Of course you would. And how much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Yes, the law permits a person to do good on the Sabbath." Then He said to the man, "Hold out your hand." So the man held out his hand, and it was restored, just like the other one! Then the Pharisees called a meeting to plot how to kill Jesus.

The Jewish leaders were infuriated by Stephen's accusation, and they shook their fists at him in rage. But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed steadily into heaven and saw the glory of God, and he saw Jesus standing in the place of honor at God's right hand. And he told them, "Look, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing in the place of honor at God's right hand!" Then they put their hands over their ears and began shouting. They rushed at him and dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. His accusers took off their coats and laid them at the feet of a young man named Saul.

The world will always do what it can to silence those who speak the truth, not the truth as man knows it but the truth as God’s Holy Spirit reveals it! For what is man’s truth but a narrow version of a single sided story used to manipulate others into believing as the one who is doing the speaking or is it something more than one man’s opinion over another? No, I tell you the truth does not originate in the heart of man but if someone knows the truth it is because God has revealed it to them through His Holy Spirit! When a lamp is illuminated by the Father of lights it drives shadows from every crevice and no corner remains hidden. No more is wrong free to roam and take hold in hearts unaware but those who do wrong must do so in broad daylight and those who choose evil over good must do it for all to see.
There will come a day when the light of God’s Truth can no longer be contained only within the hearts of His people and on that day the whole world will know that He is God! Until then the fire of His light will burn brightly in the hearts of His people and no amount of persecution, even unto death or any lie can suffocate it because it is the Lord Himself that fuels this fire with the Words of His mouth. Yes, the Word made flesh is alive and well and leads His people to a place where His glory is to be revealed. It is one thing to recognize and repeat a good saying for certainly truth was revealed to the one who originally said it but to dig into God’s Word, to pray for understanding, and then allow God to speak through you as His Holy Spirit leads is beyond compare and like Daniel, Stephen, and Jesus your words are no longer safe because you speak as God stirs your spirit and not simply repeating what someone else has already said. You see to repeat someone else points back to them but to speak as God leads you through His Word and through prayer does not point back to a person but to God and that is what darkness fears most. It is not your power or your words but God’s light shining through you that has made you dangerous.
And this is God's plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God's children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus. By God's grace and mighty power, I have been given the privilege of serving Him by spreading this Good News. Though I am the least deserving of all God's people, He graciously gave me the privilege of telling the Gentiles about the endless treasures available to them in Christ. I was chosen to explain to everyone this mysterious plan that God, the Creator of all things, had kept secret from the beginning. God's purpose in all this was to use the church to display His wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. This was His eternal plan, which He carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord. Because of Christ and our faith in Him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God's presence.

Can two be joined together yet be divided in heart? What about parent and child, can they support or encourage each other if there is division between them? No, I tell you this relationship will follow the prior and if there are cracks in the foundation the entire house will be unstable.
What happens when the wife cannot submit to the husband and the husband cannot love the wife? When the Bible says something we must consider it carefully. Too many times I’ve seen politically correct preachers teach wives the word submit doesn’t really mean submit and then as to reinforce their thought they go directly into how God created men and women to be equals. While truth is mixed into the point being made it leads couples further into distress. It is no better for men, in order to be kind, gentle, loving, and avoid confrontation our God-given desire to lead has been subdued to the point of almost nonexistent and church leaders wonder why they have such a hard time getting men to participate making them seem lazy and uninterested. These problems are compounded when children are raised in a home where these questions go unanswered.
And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly. Children, always obey your parents, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged. Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your reverent fear of the Lord. Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

“We must never separate the privileges and duties of the gospel religion.
I. He begins with the duties of wives and husbands (Col_3:18): Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Submission is the duty of wives, hupotassesthe. It is the same word which is used to express our duty to magistrates (Rom_13:1, Let every soul be subject to the higher powers), and is expressed by subjection and reverence, Eph_5:24, Eph_5:33. The reason is that Adam was first formed, then Eve: and Adam was not deceived, but the woman, being deceived, was in the transgression, 1Ti_2:13, 1Ti_2:14. He was first in the creation and last in the transgression. The head of the woman is the man; and the man is not of the woman, but the woman of the man; neither was the man created for the woman, but the woman for the man, 1Co_11:3, 1Co_11:8, 1Co_11:9. It is agreeable to the order of nature and the reason of things, as well as the appointment and will of God. And they must not be bitter against them, not use them unkindly, with harsh language or severe treatment, but be kind and obliging to them in all things; for the woman was made for the man, neither is the man without the woman, and the man also is by the woman, 1Co_11:9, 1Co_11:11, 1Co_11:12.”
The husband has the greater responsibility of the two and therefore the Lord requires more of him. On Judgment Day they both must give an account of how they lived their lives and many will be surprised. Husbands who have a strong wives must love them regardless of their actions or words and show Christ’s love to them at all times but know this in every situation where the wife is strong the husband’s strength is subdued and many times they even appear weak to others, which in turn causes the wife to justify her display of strength. In this case she is searching for something but does not know what, God has not blessed her in the area of leading in place of her husband and therefore she will not be satisfied. That’s not to say the woman cannot lead if the husband is absent but she must not do this if he is present and purposes to follow God’s leading. The wife’s purpose is to help him hear and follow God’s leading and by doing this the entire household is strengthened as God intended. The husband with a strong wife also has a responsibility to teach her why she cannot lead, to help her hear God’s voice, but he must do it without becoming frustrated and should the wife refuse to listen the husband must fall back on the promise he made before God to love and care for her, even cherish her.
A wife of noble character is her husband's crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.

Husbands don’t blame your wives and wives don’t blame your husbands but instead allow God to open your spiritual eyes so that you might see how today’s culture has drifted so far away from what God’s plan was for the family. If your children are rebellious first examine your relationship with God and then with your spouse, are you following His precepts? Matthew Henry may have said it best when he said, “We must never separate the privileges and duties of the gospel religion.” If you want the spouse God intended then you have to be the spouse He intended and if you want the children He promised would be a blessing then you have to be the parents He promised to bless.

You lack because you don't ask
Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

As you would expect a good father to bless his children when they honor him and withhold his blessings when they don’t so does our Heavenly Father but even more so. Where do you think this model for us comes from? Look at the life of Moses and God’s people as He led them out of bondage. God cared for them and provided for all their needs but when their wicked hearts turned from God what happened? In our grown up, politically correct culture today we read the Old Testament and view it as harsh or even cruel but for all the changes we’ve made is the world a better place to live in now? Really, look closer at current events, look behind the scenes not just what the media wants you to hear; the stage is being set for the final battle and the love of humanity will begin to grow cold as fear replaces compassion.
God still protects and provides for His children and in Matthew chapter 7 Jesus tells us to ask and keep on asking. Why ask more than once you say, because our hearts are not in alignment with our Heavenly Father’s and as we seek Him the things we ask for will change, reflecting the changes He is making inside of us (by this He leads His children out of bondage, even today). As our hearts begin to honor our Heavenly Father the door to His blessing also begins to open and He welcomes us in to a bounty never before seen! In this place the territory given to us increases and what limited us before has strangely disappeared leaving in its wake faith, hope, and love and a better understanding of each and the role they play in God’s great adventure! You see humanity and the enemy are not the only ones preparing for the end. God wants to bless and prepare His children but to what extent is determined by the individual and only by the individual because of free will, which is a gift from God alone; by the limits of our own faith and because of the walls created by our ability to obey, it is by these things our territory will have boundaries. The boundaries are (as difficult as it is to understand and for lack of a better way to explain) predetermined by God Himself, as Jesus told us by His example in Matthew chapter 25. Starting at verse 14 the master knowing his servants divided his money to each one according to what they could handle. It was because of the love the master had for each servant he did not give to them more than their abilities would allow and in the end cause failure. Each one equally had the opportunity to fail or succeed, to be faithful or selfish, to honor the master or advance their own purpose. Starting at verse 21 the master rewards each servant according to their works, knowing without works faith is dead. The two that were faithful saw the door of the master’s blessings open before them but to the one that was evil saw the power and might of the master’s righteous indignation as it was revealed the master is our Lord and Savior and the lesson goes from storybook characters to a light revealing the dark corners of our own hearts! For we know it is only God who has such discernment as to divide responsibilities equally so that when we stand before His throne of judgment we will have no defense except Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Like this lazy servant there will be those who know of God, even living in God’s house but do not take the time to know God – this is the difference between an acquaintance and having a deep personal relationship with someone. Unfortunately knowing of God deceives the individual into believing they too can receive God’s blessings and in part they are correct but there is so much more to be discovered if only they would learn to walk in humility. Fortunately, God knows the heart of each man and woman and He sees the motives behind each request. With time the motives are even revealed to other people if they see with the spirit and not the flesh and with understanding provided by the Holy Spirit of God. Read the following from James chapter 4 and see if it doesn’t sound like events taking place today. You don’t have to look very far to see it on Facebook, the news, or anywhere there are people gathered for any length of time. Parts of the passage are quoted but taken out of context, look at who is being addressed and hear the conditions of God’s blessings. To ask for the right things yet still have evil desires and pride only forfeits your ability to receive.
What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don't they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don't have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can't get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don't have what you want because you don't ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don't get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. You adulterers! Don't you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. What do you think the Scriptures mean when they say that the spirit God has placed within us is filled with envy? But He gives us even more grace to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say, "God opposes the proud but favors the humble." So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up in honor. Don't speak evil against each other, dear brothers and sisters. If you criticize and judge each other, then you are criticizing and judging God's law. But your job is to obey the law, not to judge whether it applies to you. God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor?

Though this message is stern it is given in love and hope that God’s people will awaken to the workings of the enemy and cast off the stained garments so that God’s people will be set apart and prepared for that which is coming.
